This naturally occurring mineral is processed by heating crude perlite ore to approximately 1800°F, causing the trapped water within the volcanic glass to vaporize and expand the material up to 20 times its original volume, creating a lightweight aggregate with countless tiny air cells that provide insulating properties. Perlite insulation is valued for its non-combustible nature, chemical inertness, pest resistance, and ability to maintain its insulating properties over time without settling or deteriorating.
